The Academic Staff Association College of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone has issued a Press Release with Six resolutions on the matter of appointment of an Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE).

Following an emergency meeting of members of the Academic Staff Association of the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone on Monday 29th January, 2024 on issues relating to the leadership of the University of Sierra Leone, the following resolutions were reached:

  1. The members of ASA-COMAHS have followed with keen interest the developments around the appointment of an Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone outside the provisions of the Universities Act of 2021 by the Ministry of Tertiary and Higher Education.

2. The members of ASA-COMAHS applaud the decision of the Court of the University of Sierra Leone in upholding the rule of law and rejecting the appointment of an Acting Vice- Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sierra Leone by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education

3. The members of ASA-COMAHS welcome the ratification and appointment of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor-COMAHS as Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Sierra Leone and formally congratulate him on his appointment

4. The members of ASA-COMAHS frown at various attempts by statutory institutions involved in the resolution of the matter to undermine the decision of the Court of the University of Sierra Leone and the rule of law in academic institutions.

5. The members of ASA-COMAHS therefore strongly condemn these attempts and advise all institutions involved in the resolution of the matter to uphold the provisions made on the office of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University as prescribed in the Universities Act of 2021

6. ASA-COMAHS wants the institutions involved in this matter to note that its members will stiffly resist any decision that is made outside the provisions of the Universities Act of 2021 on this matter
