The College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) has awarded degrees to hundreds of students at the Jui Campus, just outside Freetown.

The ceremony saw the swearing-in of newly graduated medical students from various fields including medicine, pharmacology and laboratory sciences.

During the ceremony, Dr Hassanatu Yeanie Kanu, a medical graduate received the most awards. She received several medals for her brilliance in anatomy, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology, ob-gyn, surgery, medicine and dissertation making her the all-round best student for this year.

Prior to her university admission, she was the Head Girl of Annie Walsh Memorial School in Freetown in 2016 when she left after passing her WASSCE with excellent grades.

Similarly to Dr Kanu, Vivia Kamara graduated as the best student from the Pharmacology unit —sweeping several medals for this year.

COMAHS is one of three constituent colleges that make up the University of Sierra Leone with Fourah Bay College (FBC) and the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) being the other two.

The institution serves as an ideal training ground for medical and science students in Sierra Leone with most of the country’s doctors, pharmacists and lab technicians darkening the corridors of the college.
