Confucius Institute at the University of Sierra Leone has said that the Institute has set up a total of 20 Chinese language teaching sites in the country.
The Chinese Director of the institute, Jing Man said that the teaching sites have played a key role in enabling Sierra Leoneans to learn Chinese language.
Speaking at the celebration of the United Nations Chinese Language Day, Man said locals have also learned many things about Chinese culture and tradition through the learning sites.
The Institute’s Chinese Director added that the institute has helped fostered a symbiotic relationship between Sierra Leone and China.
The Vice Chancellor of Fourah Bay College, Professor Kelleh Mansaray described the Institute as important in the education sector and further prodded them expand their curriculum and more sites in order to include more locals.
Professor Mansaray said that college will render their support when needed.
Also at the ceremony was a special representative of the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Josephus Brima.
He said that China and Sierra Leone have had a long and good relationship and that the teaching of Chinese language has further deepened the good tie between the two countries.
