The Port Loko campus of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) recently held its Matriculation Ceremony for new students.

The event, which took place on Friday, March 13, at the university’s amphitheater, was attended by a range of prominent education and residential stakeholders.

Notable figures included the Deputy Minister of Education 2, Madam Kadiatu Emily Gogra, Resident Minister Ambassador Umaru Bond Wurrie, and His Worship the Mayor, Alie Badara Tarawali.

University administrators, in their speeches, warmly welcomed the matriculants and reminded them of the institution’s core values.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Alhaji Brima Gogra particularly stressed the importance of regular attendance, discouraging cultism, exam malpractice, hooliganism, and corruption. “We uphold the values of this institution,” he remarked, urging the students to embrace academic excellence and ethical conduct throughout their time at EBKUST.

Invited guests echoed these sentiments, offering words of encouragement and motivating the new students to stay committed to their studies. They also emphasized the university’s vision of autonomy and the importance of peaceful co-existence among students.

John Lubega Dumbuya, President of the Students’ Union, reassured the incoming students of his government’s commitment to improving their welfare. He encouraged them to make the most of the academic and extracurricular opportunities available on campus to enrich their university experience.

In a heartfelt moment, Aminata Tarawali a representative of the matriculants expressed gratitude to the university and all present for making the ceremony a memorable occasion.
