The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has announced that the WAEC portal for the Batch Registration System (BRS) for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is now officially open.

According to the Ministry, a total of 163,997 candidates have been cleared, confirmed, and submitted to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) following a nationwide verification exercise. These candidates constitute the official list approved for upload on the BRS portal.

The Ministry disclosed that 55,174 candidates were initially identified as unmatched due to issues including incorrect records, duplication, or incomplete information. Out of 74,682 previously unmatched candidates, Government has already cleared 19,505 genuine and eligible candidates after further review.

School leaders have been encouraged to begin uploading cleared candidates while efforts continue to review and correct the remaining unmatched cases.

The Ministry emphasized that Government remains committed to paying examination fees for all genuine and eligible candidates.

Meanwhile, affected school heads have been directed to urgently review and correct all discrepancies and submit final verified lists to the Ministry for approval before uploading to the WAEC portal.

Additionally, an official undertaking document presented to Parliament by the Minister on 10th February 2026 and duly approved must be signed by every school head at MBSSE offices nationwide. The undertaking holds school authorities accountable for the accuracy and integrity of candidate data submitted for WASSCE registration.

The Ministry further announced that the WAEC BRS portal will close on 28th February 2026, stressing that there will be no extension under any circumstances. Schools that fail to complete registration within the stipulated timeframe risk their candidates not being registered for the 2026 WASSCE.

The Ministry has called on all school authorities to treat the exercise with urgency, accuracy, and responsibility to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible examination process.
