The Police Wives Vocational and Training Institute graduated 47 students on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at a colorful ceremony held at the Police Wives Association Multipurpose Hall in the Kingtom Police Barracks, Freetown.
The graduates, who had completed vocational courses in various disciplines, were recognized for their achievements in a ceremony attended by several dignitaries, including the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, and the Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh.
In her address to the gathering, the Principal of the Institute, Mrs. Grace A. Fullah, expressed her gratitude to the Police Wives Association for its role in establishing the Institute, which has been pivotal in empowering young people through skills development.

She emphasized that the Institute caters to all individuals, including both able-bodied persons and those with physical disabilities. Notably, two non-verbal persons with disabilities were among the graduating students, each receiving certificates for their hard work.
Mrs. Fullah also admitted that the Institute is open to the general public, not just the relatives of police personnel, providing opportunities for anyone eager to acquire practical and employable skills.
She further acknowledged the strong partnership between the Police Wives Vocational Institute and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), urging that graduates be considered in future police recruitment exercises. She stressed that the courses offered by the Institute are in line with the current needs of the labor market.

The Principal also appealed to the government and other relevant stakeholders to assist students with scholarships, citing financial constraints that had hindered some students from completing their programs.
In his speech, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, congratulated the graduates, stating that the acquisition of technical skills and knowledge is critical to national development.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting vocational education, stating that strengthening technical skills training would contribute to the country’s progress. He also encouraged the graduates to stay focused, work hard, and believe in their dreams.

Responding to Mrs. Fullah’s appeal, the IGP announced that 15 graduates would be considered for future police recruitment exercises. He also revealed that the SLP Executive Management Board would sponsor 20 students, while he and his wife would personally offer 10 scholarships to students in need.
The Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, who delivered the keynote address, praised the graduates for acquiring valuable skills that would contribute to nation-building. He committed to providing 20 scholarships to students of the Institute and suggested the inclusion of plumbing in the Institute’s curriculum in the future.
Hon. Sannoh emphasized the importance of education as a pathway to a secure future and encouraged the graduates to maintain confidence in themselves and the dignity of labor.

Other speakers at the ceremony included Mrs. Zainab O. Williams, representing the President of the Police Wives Association, and Mr. Abdulai Senesie, Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), who both offered motivational messages to inspire the graduates as they embark on their professional journeys.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and prizes to the most outstanding graduates.
