The University of Makeni (UNIMAK), through their Vice-Chancellor Professor Joseph Turay, signed a partnership with the University of Perugia in Italy on October 3, this year.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) marks an important step towards internationalizing UNIMAK and expending its academic horizons.

Speaking after signing the MoU, Professor Turay emphasized the importance of international partnerships for universities in Sierra Leone, highlighting that the exchange of knowledge, resources, and experience across borders can lead to a stronger and more diverse academic communities.

Following that development, the Vice-Chancellor extended UNIMAK’s partnership by signing new MoUs with the Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Rome, the Gemelli Politechnico Hospital, Holy Spirit, and Love Bridges Hospitals in Lokomasama.

The collaborations aim to enhance medical education and research and open opportunities.

He said: “The Catholic University of Sacred Heart, renown for its medical faculty, and Gemelli Hospital, known as one of the best teaching Catholic hospitals, bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience. Therefore, collaborating with these institutions can open up avenues for research, learning opportunities, and an exchange of best practices in healthcare.”
