Following the unfortunate death of Abdul Karim Kamara, a third-year student in Economics department, who met his untimely death on his way home from a musical concert at the Makeni City Plaza, students at the University of Makeni have poured several reactions both off and online as a result of the demise of their colleague.
According to reports, Kamara bumped into thieves who allegedly stabbed him to death for his property.
While announcing the passing of Abdul Karim Kamara, Unimak Students’ Representative Council (SRC) noted with deep sorrow upon their colleague’s demise.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our colleague, brother and friend, Abdul Karim Kamara, a third-year student of the Economics department at the University Makeni,” the Students’ Representative Council said.
The council expressed with grave concern the passing way of Kamara, adding that it had engaged the deceased family members to facilitate his burial arrangements and also called upon the police to ensure “justice prevails”.
The course mates of late Abdul Karim Kamara said they were in utter disbelief when they heard about the death of their colleague, noting that they had spent quality time together a day before rumours about his death were confirmed by the Students’ Representative Council.
“It is unbelievable! Until the University confirmed it, we never believed that Abdul is truly dead. We were together throughout the day. What a life!, ” Late Abdul’s course mates reacted to the news of his death.
“Even though we want the police to apprehend those who took an innocent life for an Android phone, we wish the parents can invoke a traditional deity to kill the people who stabbed him to death,” they added.
Reacting to the awful incident that claimed Abdul’s life, Shattu, a student from another department, said they would soon resort to a tit-for-tat action, since hoodlums are becoming heartless every day.
“Very soon we will begin to return evil with evil since people are becoming so heartless day by day,” Shattu said.
A group of students suggested that they would make a formal complaint and file a letter of concern to the Makeni City Mayor, alleging that ugly incidents such as what sent Abdul Karim Kamara to the land of no return happen frequently in Makeni, precisely around the city Plaza.
They furthered that there should be robust security at plaza, since it is mostly used by young men and women, to prevent same.
