The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), hosted its annual awards ceremony on Monday, December 16, 2024, celebrating exceptional performance in the 2023/2024 National Primary School Examination (NPSE), Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Held in the Western Rural District, the event honored top-performing students, schools, and teachers, aiming to inspire educational excellence across the region.
Deputy Chairman of WARDC, Robert Brown, representing Chairman Kasho J. Holland Cole, applauded the honorees for their achievements. “Education remains a priority for WARDC,” Brown said, highlighting the council’s initiatives to improve educational infrastructure. He praised teachers for their critical role in nurturing the district’s future leaders.
The ceremony also featured remarks from Deputy District Director of Education, Western Rural, who lauded the event as a key motivator for academic excellence, and Councilor Altimatu Kamara, WARDC’s Education Committee Chairperson, who expressed gratitude for educators’ efforts to raise the district’s educational standards.
Keynote speaker Martina Konya Baison, Gender Officer at WARDC, addressed pupils on maintaining focus, avoiding violence, and reporting abuse, emphasizing the importance of holistic student development.
Awardees included Alfrain International School and Naihcom High School for exemplary school-wide performance. Individual students were celebrated for outstanding achievements, receiving accolades in categories such as Best Performing Schools and Best Results in NPSE, BECE, and WASSCE.
Certificates of recognition were presented to WARDC leadership for their support of education, with Mohamed Momoh Foday, Development Planning Officer, praised for overseeing the event’s success.
The awards ceremony reflects WARDC’s and MBSSE’s shared dedication to fostering a culture of academic excellence and inspiring Sierra Leone’s future leaders.
