Controversy Erupts Over Alleged Government Sabotage of Kao Denero’s December 13th Show

A sharp public controversy has erupted over allegations that elements within the Sierra Leone Government maliciously sabotaged a major entertainment event planned by the nation’s Entertainment Ambassador, Kao Denero.

The dispute centers on a conflict of dates, after the Minister of Information announced that the government’s Civic Festival would be held on December 13th, the exact date Kao Denero had previously secured for his “All Game Final Show,” announced as far back as July 9th.

Opposition politician Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has publicly weighed in, strongly criticizing the government’s action. Blyden suggested that the move constituted “real advantage” against the artist, stating, “I truly don’t like how Kaolastkingdenero is being treated by elements of Sierra Leone Government”.

She described the situation as “disgusting,” questioning, “Why appoint someone as Entertainment Ambassador and then proceed to MALICIOUSLY sabotage the person’s entertainment event?”.

Blyden’s statement emphasized that the government was being “recklessly ungrateful to a man who deserves to be respected by them”.

The timing issue was further detailed by the bogging page Weblog 232, which addressed recent public narratives suggesting Kao Denero refused to honor an invitation to the Civic Festival.

Weblog 232 clarified the timeline, stating that Kao Denero had announced his show months ahead of the Minister of Information selecting December 13th for the government event.

“If you were in his position, after promoting your event for months, investing money, energy, and planning would you abandon it just because someone suddenly fixed their program on the same date? Let’s be real for once,” Weblog 232 wrote.

The bogging page stressed that the issue is not about disrespect but about “professionalism, timing, and fairness” and that growth in the entertainment sector “starts with honesty, respect, and proper coordination, not narratives twisted to shame one artist”.

Neither the Minister of Information nor any government official has issued a formal statement responding to the allegations of malicious intent or lack of coordination.
