Sierra Leone’s music scene was abuzz on June 30, 2024 after legendary afrobeat artist Emmerson Bockarie was spotted at the BET Awards.
Bockarie wasn’t just there to celebrate – he made history by becoming among the elite Sierra Leonean artists to ever take the BET stage.
In an interview at the awards ceremony, Bockarie acknowledged the influence of Nigerian afrobeat artists, but also emphasized the significant contributions of Sierra Leonean musicians to the genre’s development.
