Mariama M.J Kanneh who represented Kailahun district in the just concluded Miss Sierra Leone pageant 2023 has expressed her disappointment and frustration with the organizers of the Miss Sierra Leone pageant, accusing them of being unprofessional and unfair.

Miss Kailahun 2023, who had hoped to use the competition as a platform to showcase her skills and talents, claims that the organizers took away her opportunities.

In a message to her supporters, she said, “I’d want to thank you on behalf of the entire team for your support and encouragement. You helped me feel heard and seen, and I appreciate you for that. I appreciate you being a part of my journey.”

Miss Kailahun 2023 also hinted at facing challenges during the competition but chose to keep the details private, stating, “I don’t want to be so eager to share the specifics of what I went through that I forget that being invisible is a superpower. In order to give myself the best chance of finding my own solutions, I’m keeping my issues to myself.”

She went on to express her disappointment with the Miss Sierra Leone Limited Board, saying, “All I asked of the Miss Sierra Leone Limited Board was a free and fair competition, but I appreciate them for taking away my opportunity to showcase my talent and for being extremely unprofessional and unfair. Working hard without seeing any results or compensation is incredibly demoralizing and lowers morale throughout society.”

Miss Kailahun 2023 also voiced her hope for a more supportive and equitable environment, saying, “I look forward to a workspace that values commitment, diligence, personal development, and honesty in addition to being more equal and helpful.”

Despite her grievances, she took a moment to congratulate her fellow contestants, acknowledging the enjoyable experiences and opportunities provided during their journey.
