The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt has in a meeting with cross section of the Sierra Leone film Council emphasized government commitment to bringing the film policy into being.

The meeting with members of the film council was in response to the level of dissatisfaction expressed by the film industry with regards policies, promotion of intellectual property right, marketing and the overall management of viable film product that can market Sierra Leone. Minister Pratt stated that the film policy was a critical component of the Ministry’s cultural policy, hence the Ministry is working with the Ministry of Information and Communications to ensure that whatever policy they are developing is sync with the overall cultural and entertainment policies of the Tourism Ministry.

She talked about the upcoming film festival with the Entertainment Ambassador, Kao Denero where they will showcase what they have which she said was critical to the rebranding of the country. She appealed for them to participate in the film festival as it aimed at promoting domestic tourism.

The Co. Chair 2 of the Film Council, Aiah Momoh said for the fact that their industry was on the rise, they need government commitment in protecting their intellectual property right. He said they are hopeful that their demands will be met for the overall benefit of the industry.
