In 2019, President Bio declared rape a national emergency, highlighting the gravity of the issue and the urgent need for action. Today, another crisis demands a similar response- the rampant drug epidemic gripping Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone’s youth are the cornerstone upon which our nation’s prosperity will be built. Yet, the pervasive influence of Kush drugs is endangering their wellbeing and future. It is distressing to see many of our promising young minds succumb to drug abuse, losing sight of their dreams and aspirations.
President Julius Bio commendable efforts to offer a few elite youths political jobs are overshadowed by the harsh reality that hundreds more remain trapped in a downward spiral of drug consumption. While the intention to provide opportunities is laudable, the prevalence of drug abuse is stifling our youths potential and leading to a tragic cycle of insanity and early death. President Bio must prioritize addressing this pressing issue to secure a brighter future for all our youth!
The detrimental effects of drug abuse on productivity cannot be overstated. As young minds fall prey to Kush drugs, their ability to contribute meaningfully to society is diminished. The loss of productivity not only hampers individual progress but also stifles our nation’s growth and development.
The rampant availability of dangerous substances like Kush is a clear indicator of the ineffectiveness of current law enforcement efforts. The ease with which these drugs circulate openly raises serious doubts about the commitment and capability of law enforcement agencies to tackle the drug crisis. This inadequacy has left the door wide open for drug syndicates to exploit our communities, endangering the lives of our youth.
Fingers are pointing at senior government officials and close allies in the drug syndicate, it is evident that immediate and decisive action is required.
The government must declare a national emergency on Kush drugs to signal its wavering commitment to addressing the issue. This declaration will mobilize resources, strengthen law enforcement efforts and enable the implementation of comprehensive strategies to combat the drug epidemic.
I am calling on all Sierra Leoneans to unite in calling the government to declare a national emergency on Kush drugs. Together, we can pave the way for a drug-frer Sierra Leone, where the dreams and aspirations of our youths are safeguarded and nurtured.
Indeed this should be a national concerned but the government is making negligence to this serious issues due to the fact that they are the one bringing it.
The earlier such National Emergency is being called upon, and strict measures are put in place to combat this seemingly ongoing drug menace in our beloved country the better for a hope-filled generation we would look forward to….
