Meet our Woman Crush Wednesday for the second week in November, Sophie Kelson-Sesay.
Sophie Kelson-Sesay is a brilliant student, who holds the best result in the 2020 W.A.S.S.C.E in Sierra Leone from the Modern High School (M.H.S.). She also obtained aggregate Six(6) when she sat to the B.E.C.C.E. She once again displayed her brilliance in the N.P.S.E. by scoring 364.
On Friday, November 4, 2022, Sophie Kelson Sesay, a third-year Law student from the University of Makeni was awarded the best oralist for this year’s competition, becoming the first woman to win such a prize. This award came during the Frances Claudia Wright Inter-Collegiate Moot Competition, where IMAT College emerged as the winner of the Competition after defeating the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) Law Department in the finals.
The annual competition is organized by the Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ), in collaboration with the National Mooting Council (NMC) in a bid to train Sierra Leonean law students and improve their participation in national, regional, and international competitions. It provides an opportunity to debate a cutting-edge topic in law and recent policy developments. Students will be given a hypothetical case and will argue for both the Applicant and Respondent in the case by writing legal memoranda and preparing oral arguments for presentation in front of a panel of judges. This year’s competition started on Monday, October 31, 2022, between the University of Makeni, IMAT College, Fourah Bay College, and Njala University. IMAT College beats the University of Makeni, last year’s winners by a mere margin.
