President Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio, before the holidays, appointed Mr. Alpha Sesay and Madam Saptieu Elizabeth Saccoh to serve as Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and Deputy Minister of Justice, respectively. Both lawyers have made history as the youngest individuals to hold these positions in Sierra Leone’s justice sector.
Mr. Sesay’s commitment to ensuring justice is widely recognized. As a law student at Fourah Bay College, he championed human rights issues through his involvement with the Human Rights Clinic, a prominent student advocacy organization.
In his maiden address at the Guma Building in Freetown, Mr. Sesay emphasized the importance of delivering justice for all in a timely and effective manner. He urged his colleagues to collaborate and work diligently toward this goal, stressing that “time is of the essence” and that teamwork is essential for success.
The appointment of this dynamic duo is seen as a strategic move by President Bio, particularly given the remarkable work of Lawyer Saptieu Elizabeth Saccoh at the Administrator General’s Office. During her tenure, she transformed an institution that once faced significant challenges into one admired by many in the legal profession.
While her new role brings high expectations, it also comes with mixed feelings. Colleagues and the public acknowledge her legal and administrative acumen, which they believe will drive progress at the Ministry of Justice. However, many also express regret over her departure from the Administrator General’s Office, where her innovative and managerial skills were instrumental.
The challenges ahead are substantial. Public demand for justice remains high, and despite the strides made under President Bio’s leadership—recognized internationally for his commitment to human rights and the rule of law—there is still much to be done.
The numerous laws enacted to protect citizens highlight the administration’s dedication to justice, but translating these into tangible outcomes will be a critical test for Mr. Sesay and Madam Saccoh in their new roles.
The article never stated their ages! How do we know they’re the youngest attorneys of Sierra Leone?😀😀
