Together with the Ministry of Health, Save the Children has officially launched the Strengthening Health Systems project nationally.
The project, aimed at providing lifesaving maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition services, will be implemented in Pujehun and Port Loko, and was introduced to local authorities and partner organizations in these districts in July.
Tom Sesay, Director of Reproductive and Child Health at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the project’s importance and its alignment with the Ministry’s objectives to improve the health of mothers and children in Sierra Leone.
He noted that the initiative will also build the capacity of healthcare workers and local NGOs, enabling them to replicate similar interventions across the country.
Sesay commended the collaboration between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Save the Children, and announced the formation of a steering committee to oversee the project’s implementation and ensure it has a positive impact on maternal and child health in Pujehun and Port Loko.
Funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the project is set to strengthen health systems in these districts over the next year, with a possibility of extension.
The launch event reinforced our shared commitment to improving health outcomes for mothers and children in Sierra Leone, laying the groundwork for continued collaboration to achieve these vital goals.
