The Government of Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is gearing up for a crucial initiative in the fight against malaria – the 2023 Insecticide Treated Net (ITN) Mass Distribution Campaign. With the slogan “Prevent Malaria! Always Sleep Inside a Treated Mosquito Net,” the campaign aims to provide essential protection against the deadly disease.

Household registration for the distribution will take place from Thursday, February 1st, to Saturday, February 10th, 2024. This period will serve as an opportunity for households across Sierra Leone to register and ensure they are included in the distribution plan. It is crucial for every eligible family to participate, as the success of the campaign relies on comprehensive coverage.

The actual distribution of the insecticide-treated nets is scheduled to occur from Thursday, February 22nd, to Wednesday, February 28th, 2024. During this time, trained personnel will be deployed across the nation to distribute the nets to registered households. The nets are a proven and effective method to combat malaria by providing a physical barrier against mosquitoes that carry the disease.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes the importance of using these nets consistently, as malaria remains a significant public health concern in Sierra Leone. By encouraging everyone to sleep inside a treated mosquito net, the government aims to reduce the incidence of malaria, especially among vulnerable populations.

This mass distribution campaign reflects Sierra Leone’s commitment to improving public health and underscores the government’s proactive approach to combating preventable diseases. The success of the initiative depends on the active participation of citizens, as they work together with the government to create a healthier and malaria-free Sierra Leone.
