Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) has disclosed that medical charity ship, Mercy Ships will dock at Sierra Leone this August and embarks on surgical operations in all regions of the country.
In a communique to District Medical Officers (DMOs) of four Districts in all region of the country, the MoHS indicated that the medical charity will embark on surgical operations when they arrived in the country.
In that light, the ministry informed the DMOs to begin the process of select patients for surgeries.
The charity, working accordingly with the government, indicated that patients will be selected in eight locations in the country.

The ministry said that four Hospitals or Community Health Centres (CHC) locations will be made available in Freetown, one each in Kambia, Makeni, Bo and Kenema.
The government said that patient registration will start in late April after the sites have selected.

Mercy Ships is medical charity organisation that have been offering pro bono service to patients in Sierra Leone, Liberia, The Gambia, Senegal, Cameroon, Madagascar, Benin, Ghana, South Africa and Togo for over 25 years. This year the charity’s Global Mercy will make its maiden dock in Freetown from Dakar where it has been offering service to Senegal and The Gambia.
