Twenty exceptional pupils from Kpanga Chiefdom, Pujehun District, who scored 250 marks and above in the 2025 NPSE, have been awarded full scholarships through the newly launched Carburettor Scholarship Scheme.
Founded by philanthropist Patrick Ansu Kaikai, the initiative aims to promote access to quality education for underprivileged children and strengthen community development through academic excellence.
The official launch and award ceremony brought together a cross-section of dignitaries, including the Paramount Chief of Kpanga Chiefdom, the Speaker, the Mayor of Pujehun Town, the Kpanga Court Chairman, parents, and other community stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Sheaku Soko Tarawally, Secretary-General of the Carburettor Scholarship Scheme, explained that the program initially aimed to benefit ten pupils. However, following recommendations from Abubakar Mustapha, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, and the overwhelming community support, donor Pa Ansu Kaikai approved an expansion to twenty beneficiaries for the first phase, with plans for further growth in subsequent years.
Tarawally noted that the scholarship will span six years covering both junior and senior secondary school education and stressed that students must maintain strong academic performance to remain eligible. “Any pupil who fails to meet the academic requirements risks losing the scholarship,” he warned.
In his remarks, Chairman Abubakar Mustapha emphasized transparency and accountability in managing the fund. He urged parents to submit photocopies of their children’s school fee receipts for record-keeping and monitoring purposes. Mustapha also encouraged parents to take an active role in their children’s education, underscoring that home support is crucial for continued success.
Paramount Chief Ibrahim Jaiah Kaikai commended Ansu Kaikai and the Carburettor team for their foresight and generosity. “When children are educated, development follows,” he said, calling on parents to pray for the donor and prioritize their children’s schooling.
Philip Mando, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Pujehun District Council, described the initiative as “timely and impactful.” He highlighted that it complements government efforts to strengthen human capital development and aligns with the council’s vision of ensuring education for all children in the district.
Mando further applauded Ansu Kaikai’s enduring commitment to education, noting that his philanthropic support extends to university students. He also recommended the creation of a monitoring and evaluation committee to ensure that the scholarship achieves its intended impact.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of NLe 1,200 to each of the twenty beneficiaries as part of their educational support package marking the beginning of what many described as a life-changing opportunity for the young scholars.
