The family of Mohamed Kallay, a 45-year-old supervisor at Addax Company, is demanding a thorough police investigation into his mysterious death. Kallay, who had worked for the company for over 13 years, was found dead on Sunday, September 8, 2024, in a rice swamp, sparking suspicions of foul play.
A post-mortem conducted at Makeni Government Hospital concluded that Kallay had drowned, but his family strongly disputes the findings.
Speaking to Sierraloaded, his younger sister, Serray Kallay, expressed the family’s disbelief in the official cause of death. She highlighted that her brother did not know how to swim, making it unlikely he would drown in a swamp.
Additionally, the family pointed to scars on his body, which they believe are evidence of foul play.
“We believe he was stabbed or murdered,” Serray said, adding that the police failed to investigate the wounds found on her brother. She expressed frustration with the police for accepting the doctor’s report without further probing into the suspicious injuries.
The police advised the family to seek another autopsy in Freetown if they were dissatisfied with the findings but allowed them to mark the grave for a potential future investigation. Mohamed Kallay was laid to rest in Kabala on Tuesday, September 10, following several delays and conflicts with authorities over the handling of the case.
The deceased, described as the breadwinner for his family, leaves behind a wife and a child. His family continues to push for an in-depth investigation, demanding answers about the true cause of his death.
The incident has left the Tonka Village community in shock, with residents anxiously awaiting further developments.
