The residence of Hon. Abdul Kargbo, an opposition All People’s Congress (APC) leader in Parliament, was destroyed by fire late Monday, February 24, 2025.
Reports indicate the fire was caused by unstable electricity supply from the Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA).
Hon. Kargbo recounted that the fire followed a previous incident on Wednesday when his nephew’s phone exploded while charging due to power fluctuations. “This continued, ultimately resulting in my house being burnt down and the loss of all my property,” he stated.
Despite the devastating loss, Hon. Kargbo expressed gratitude that no lives were lost. He urged Sierra Leoneans to exercise caution regarding power fluctuations to prevent similar disasters.
The incident highlights growing concerns over the increasing frequency of fire outbreaks in the country, particularly in Freetown, with many attributed to unstable electricity supply. This has led to widespread public concern regarding EDSA and public safety.
