An unfortunate Accident occurred in the early hours of today at Feradugu in Makeni Highway, followed by Police brutality on villagers including School going Pupils who had to flee to a nearby bush to protect themselves from being harmed.

According to residents who were at the scene, a yellow taxi and a soldier vehicle was racing each other from a far distance coming from makeni in full speed, when suddenly the taxi driver overtook the other vehicle with full speed. With the full speed and force used to overtake the other vehicle, he hits and instantly killed a student that was walking around the footpath, before he could divert his car to the bush.

Residents of the Feredugu village continued that people gathered around at the scene in daze of what to do and that the friends of that student couldn’t stop crying at that moment. She said that the police came and directly went to where the vehicle was parked in the bush neglecting the poor girl whom had been killed, on the ground. She added that instead of them to take care of the corpse, they insisted on protecting the vehicle from being burnt down by the friends of the deceased.

She said that the friends felt bad and asked the police whether that vehicle was more important than their friend whom had lost her life, adding that they then retaliated in anger that they are going to burn down the car.

She continued that, when the police were gone, they went and burnt the car. So when the police came to know about it, they became angry and started chasing and assaulting the students and the entire villagers and even shooting live bullets and teargas, breaking two people’s legs in the process.

She ended by asking for help as some of the villagers have been injured, some are captured and kept in police custody, whiles some are locked up in their houses afraid to go out and get hurt by the same authorities who are supposed to protect them.
