Hon. Alfred Thomson, a member of the All People’s Congress (APC), has strongly appealed for justice in the ongoing dispute surrounding the Congo Town Field located at Ephraim J. Robinson in Freetown.
Hon. Thomson disclosed that he has personally invested billions of Leones in the development of the field, which he considers a cornerstone for the advancement of the Congo Town community and the nation at large.
His vision for the project is driven by a commitment to community empowerment, youth engagement, and fostering peace through sports.
The lawmaker emphasized that football is more than just a game—it is a unifying force that promotes peace, harmony, and mental well-being, particularly among the youth.
By providing a safe and vibrant space for recreational activities, the Congo Town Field has the potential to positively influence the lives of young people in the community, keeping them away from negative influences and creating opportunities for talent development.
However, the field’s future is under threat due to a reported dispute over its ownership and plans for its demolition. Hon. Thomson expressed deep concern over these developments and called on the government to intervene swiftly and fairly to resolve the matter.
He revealed that he had engaged with the Freetown City Council in discussions aimed at ensuring the continued development of the Congo Town Field. Unfortunately, he stated, the Mayor of Freetown has announced plans to demolish the field by Monday, which has further intensified the tension surrounding the issue.
Hon. Thomson highlighted that his efforts to develop the field are in alignment with President Julius Maada Bio’s “Big Five Game Changers,” which prioritize national transformation in various sectors.
By focusing on youth development and community upliftment, Hon. Thomson believes his contributions will support the government’s broader goals for sustainable development.
The lawmaker urged all stakeholders, including the government, the Freetown City Council, and the local community, to work together to resolve the conflict amicably.
He reiterated his unwavering dedication to the Congo Town community and his belief in the transformative power of initiatives like the Congo Town Field project to bring hope, unity, and progress to Sierra Leone.
I think it make sense to remove those fences facing the class rooms
It also make sense not to be highly commercialize.
However, other disciplinary measures must be taken to ensuring the daily maintenace of the field and schools.
In that case,at least le20 must be paid by match or program to pay workers for the the upkeep of field as well as using some of the money for the daily maintenance of the school.
We therefore, ask the council’s head(mayor) and the honourable to practice a culture of development over personal issues.
This is not good for sustainable development
