Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 in Freetown has remanded Mohamed Jalloh, 27, and Foday Bangura at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road for allegedly conspiring with unknown persons to rob Abdulai Conteh of his backpack containing NLe4,700 at the Texaco Lorry Park in Freetown.
The accused were arrested on 5th May 2023 by Detective Sergeant 10037 Sellu S. Y Jalloh and Bangura appeared before the court for conspiracy contrary to law, robbery with aggravation, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to law.
It was alleged that the accused, on Tuesday 2nd May 2023 at Texaco Lorry Park in Freetown, conspired with unknown persons to commit a felony, to wit, robbery with aggravation.
The police say the accused, on the same date and place in Freetown, being armed with a knife and scissors robbed the complainant of his cash of NLe4,700.
The charge furthered that the accused, on the same date and place in Freetown assaulted and wounded the complainant in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.
Led in evidence by Sergeant 9873 Turay M, prosecution witness, businessman Abdulai Conteh said he recognized the accused in respect of the matter and could recall Tuesday 2nd May.
Abdulai said on the day in question at around 5 am, he was at Texaco Lorry Park trying to board a vehicle.
Mr Conteh said suddenly the accused came from nowhere and grabbed and assaulted him using punches.
The witness disclosed that it was during the process the second accused carted away his backpack containing the NLe4,700. He said people came to his aid and took the first accused to the Texaco Lorry Park Police Post and handed him over to the officers.
He added that when at the police post, officers took his pictures and issued him with a police medical request form for treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital in Wellington, Freetown.
Mr. Conteh said he returned the endorsed medical paper to the police, which was produced and tendered for identification. The photos of the complainant were also produced and tendered for identification.
The witness rounded up his evidence that the matter was transferred to the Ross Road Police Station, Harbour Division in Freetown where he made a statement.
At this juncture, the police prosecutor, Sergeant 9873 Turay M. M. sought for an adjournment, an application which was granted.
The accused were denied bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown and the matter was adjourned to Wednesday 14th June 2023 for further hearing.
