A government ambulance with the registration number AWO 089 reportedly hit a child in Portee earlier this week before speeding off.
According to a video circulating online, the child was thrown into the air and landed on the ground after being struck.
Shockingly, the driver did not stop to check on the child or offer help. Instead, the ambulance took off at high speed. Bystanders and local residents immediately ran after it, chasing the vehicle all the way to Calaba Town.
The chase ended there, where the ambulance was finally stopped and the driver caught.
The video’s narrator explains that the ambulance suddenly swerved out of traffic and struck the child moments later. It was also noted that the ambulance was not carrying a patient at the time.
Normally, ambulances are allowed to drive fast when they are responding to emergencies or rushing patients to the hospital. But in this case, the vehicle was reportedly not on any urgent duty, raising serious concerns about why it was being driven so recklessly and why the driver chose to flee the scene.
In the video, one person can be heard describing how the ambulance cut through traffic, hit the child, and continued driving without stopping.
So far, there has been no official update on the child’s condition or any public statement about the driver. The incident has triggered outrage among residents, who are now demanding answers and accountability from the authorities.

Wait a minute!
Am I the only one seeing AWO 089 but hearing the video shooter in the background saying AOW 089?
All the same, Kudos to the bystanders who chased the fleeing Ambulance and caught the driver. I hope the child is safe and responding to treatment?
