Officers stationed at the Lumley Police Division have benefited from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the dissemination of anti-corruption messages.
The ACC’s Public Education and External Outreach Department (PE&EOD) held a training with the officers at the Lumley Police Station Conference Room, Wilkinson Road in Freetown.
Deputy Police Superintendent, Moses K. Tholley praised the ACC for sensitizing not only the police but the public about corruption messages. The Deputy Superintendent affirmed that they are ready to work with the Commission in tackling corruption.
The Acting Deputy Director of the PE&EOD Unit of the ACC their key duty is to educate the public about corruption thereby preventing it altogether. He also mentioned that they set systems, processes,s and procedures that operate with Ministries, Department,s and Agencies (MDAs) and that the Intelligence and Investigation Department gathers information and investigates corruption-related issues.
The ACC Assistant Prosecutor, Georgina Vincent educated the officers on key provisions in the ACC Act of 2008 as amended that are normally conflicted by the police officers. She cautioned officers on the habit of receiving gifts citing the intent of the giver especially when it induces someone to do what they are paid to do.
The Commission’s Public Education Officer, Bernard Kargbo spoke on the importance of integrity. He said officers must ensure they are honest, transparent, accountable, and professional if they are to be considered within the ambit of integrity.
