Reports of violent clashes have emerged from Constituency 060 in Kambia District, just days before the rescheduled All People’s Congress (APC) lower-level elections, currently set for Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
The disturbances, which allegedly occurred in Bamoi Luma and surrounding areas, have left several party members injured and led to the destruction of election materials.
The most severe incident was reported in Ward 201, where the Ward Chairman, Edward Sawyer, and his executive team were distributing newly printed APC membership cards. According to witnesses, a group of unidentified men arrived in a motorcade and forcibly disrupted the exercise.
Chairman Sawyer was reportedly brutally assaulted, sustaining a serious eye injury and other internal injuries. Witnesses also reported that the distribution center was vandalized during the attack. A similar incident occurred in Ward 200 (Rokupr), where a violent group reportedly seized all membership cards intended for the ward executive.
Some party members have accused senior district officials and Honourable Abdul Karim Kamara (Hon. AKK), Member of Parliament for Kambia District, of orchestrating the unrest. Eyewitnesses claimed a vehicle belonging to the MP was seen as part of the violent motorcade.
Hon. AKK strongly denied the allegations in a telephone response, stating he was in Freetown on the day of the incidents. He said he was engaged in political meetings, including efforts to secure the release of the APC National Secretary General from police detention. He asserted that both of his official vehicles were in Freetown at the time.
The alleged attacks reportedly occurred in the presence of senior APC district officials, including District Secretary General Alimamy Sawyer Bangura and District Organising Secretary Mohamed Holland.
The matter has been reported to the police and is under investigation at the Bamoi Luma Police Post.
The incidents have raised concerns over the conduct of the APC’s internal democratic process ahead of the crucial lower-level elections. Party supporters are calling for swift intervention from the party’s national leadership to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
