On July 6, 2024, thirty-year-old auto mechanic Sama Kargbo appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown on charges of larceny under Sierra Leonean law. Kargbo was accused of stealing a vehicle tire and rim valued at 7,500 Leones, belonging to Abu Bakarr Kargbo, in Malama, Lumley, West of Freetown.

Kargbo pleaded guilty to the charge but was not represented by legal counsel during the proceedings. Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai informed the court that Kargbo had no prior criminal record.

In a plea for leniency, Kargbo addressed the magistrate directly, expressing remorse and vowing to change his life upon release. He urged the court to temper justice with mercy.

Considering Kargbo’s plea and his clean record, Magistrate Kekura deliberated on the appropriate sentence. Despite the accused’s heartfelt appeal, the magistrate sentenced him to 18 months in the male correctional facility in Freetown.
