The Sierra Leone Commercial Motor Bike Riders Union has indefinitely suspended its Eastern Regional Financial Secretary, Alphajor Barrie, along with the Regional General Secretary East, over allegations of corruption and misconduct.
In an official statement issued by the Union’s National Secretariat, the suspension takes immediate effect pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into the matter.
According to the Secretariat, the decision follows serious allegations and preliminary findings pointing to multiple breaches of financial and administrative procedures. These include the alleged embezzlement of district election proceeds, misappropriation of union funds, and unauthorized financial decisions made without the approval of the Eastern Regional Chairman.
The statement further accused the officials of gross insubordination toward the National Secretariat, describing their actions as clear violations of the Union’s constitution, rules, and ethical standards.
“As leaders entrusted with the responsibility to serve and protect the interests of our members, such conduct is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” the statement emphasized.
As part of the disciplinary action, both officials have been relieved of all duties and instructed to immediately hand over all Union properties, documents, and materials in their possession to the Regional Chairman.
The Union noted that the suspended officials will be duly informed of any further proceedings as investigations continue.
Reaffirming its stance, the Sierra Leone Commercial Motor Bike Riders Union stressed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and discipline across all levels of its operations, assuring members that due process will be followed in addressing the matter.
