Marking their One Year Anniversary on Saturday 9th December, the Biriwa Mandingo Descendants Union has vehemently denounced the recent armed attacks on the military armory at Wilberforce, Freetown, Sierra Leone, labeling the assault, which led to a security crisis and the unauthorized release of prisoners, as a severe threat to the nation.
Following the failed coup attempt on November 26, 2023, the union expressed grave concerns about the substantial setbacks to Sierra Leone’s development.
Highlighting the potential ramifications on the nation’s economic growth and overall progress, the union emphasized the imperative need for unity in the face of such challenges.
“We are one country, one nation, one people, and what binds us far outweighs what may divide us,” the union stated in a released statement.
Expressing dismay and disappointment at the disruption caused by the lawless actions of a faction within the country, the union urged for the preservation of Sierra Leone’s hard-fought democracy and support for legitimate leadership.
“May this never happen again. May the good God continue to protect our hard-won democracy and the country’s legitimate leadership,” the statement continued.
