A blind soap maker, Saidu Joseph Kargbo, a resident of Makeni City, has earnestly called out for humanitarians to financially support him in his soap making business.
The blind, who is popularly known as Saidu Kamasara, narrated that he was not privileged to be educated because of the lack of parental support, so he said he learnt to make all kinds of soap, like “africana soap, kabakudu soap, 72 percent soap, different colors of ground-soap, bar soap,” adding that he knows how to tide all kinds of Gara.
Mr. Kargbo asserted that with all those skills, he do not have the financial empowerment to make a large quantity of soap to trade for his survival. He acknowledged the government burden of supporting many of the less privileged people in the country stating that it could be hard for the government to adhere to his quest at once, so he said it was as a result of that he decided to utilize his skills to support himself and his family.
“So, I decided to show my talent to the International World, for humanitarians to support me as a blind man with a family. My young brother passed on leaving two of his children with me: one of them has got requirement to university but there is no money to support him, and the other will be attempting the West Africa Senior School Examination next year, and as the head, I am not financially strong to support them,” he narrated heartily.
Upon requesting for financial support from many people, he said none has come to his aid because they don’t believe that a blind man can make a soap, stating that they have a certain perception about blind people that they normally buy caustic soda with the aim of killing themselves, but now, he said they have seen the ability of a blind man who makes the best soap in Makeni without any other mixture.
“I have been requesting for financial support from one of my friends in the United States, Joseph Soko Kargbo, so I’m sending this video to him as a clear evidence that indeed I’m capable of making soap, and as well to any humanitarian who will come across this video, for them to render their genuine support,” he appealed.
Mr Kargbo reflected that last year, some people came across one of his video where he was harvesting groundnuts, a contract which he said earned his some finance to rent a house, where he is currently staying with his children. He emphasized that in this year, he is ready to make soap effortlessly, calling for humanitarians for support, assuring that the perceptions about all the blinds using caustic soda to kill themselves is untrue.
The blind man who practically revealed his ability of soap making in a social media video, concluded by pleading with his fellow Sierra Leoneans who are currently residing in the Western World to help promote his concerns for financial support, as he said, the language barrier could be a challenging factor for the Westerners to receive his message clearly.
