Renowned Sierra Leonean politician and media personality Sylvia Blyden has publicly accused the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) of orchestrating a campaign to boost the popularity of Natasha Beckley, the niece of SLPP Presidential Spokesman Alhaji Alpha Kanu.

In a statement shared on social media, Blyden dismissed claims that the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) was pursuing Beckley, calling such assertions “a lie” and urging the public not to fall for “cheap politicking.”

According to Blyden, SLPP has a history of promoting perceived allies within opposition circles. She cited the example of Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, whose profile was allegedly amplified by the ruling party while inside the APC.

Blyden contrasted Beckley’s situation with her own experiences, recalling a time when she faced direct intimidation by SLPP authorities.

“They sent several trucks of heavily armed officers to my house to hunt me down not once, but several times. At a point, my compound was like an army barracks,” she wrote.

She questioned the credibility of SLPP’s narrative that it had been seeking Beckley since June, suggesting instead that the party’s goal is to popularize her for a potential lower-level APC executive seat.

“My opinion is that SLPP wants Natasha Beckley to win whatever lower-level executive APC seat she wants, and so they have staged this inanity of declaring her as WANTED so as to help popularize her,” Blyden added.

Blyden concluded by asserting that no one inside the APC is involved in pursuing Beckley and stated that she stands by her remarks, allowing them to be freely quoted.
