A group of thieves was captured on closed-circuit television around the International School Limited of Freetown, located at Hillcot Brow, using a new trick to steal from a parked car.

The incident happened during the day, and the footage shows how the thieves worked together to open the car and take the owner’s handbag.

According to the video, the car owner had just parked and was still sitting inside when one of the thieves walked around the car. Before the owner stepped out, the thief quickly opened one of the passenger doors without being noticed. As the owner got out of the vehicle and locked it, he did not realize that one of the doors had already been opened, which prevented the car from locking properly.

After the man walked away, the thief returned with another person. One of them entered the car through the door that was left unlocked and took a handbag, which may have contained valuable items or money. The other person stood nearby, watching the road and trying to stop a “kehkeh” (motor tricycle) to leave the area quickly after the theft.

The closed-circuit television footage is in black and white and slightly blurry, making it hard to clearly see the faces of the suspects. However, it clearly shows how the act was carried out step-by-step. This method allows thieves to gain access to vehicles even when car owners believe they have locked all doors.

Residents and drivers in the area are being advised to double-check all doors manually before walking away from their vehicles, especially in busy or public locations.

No arrest has been made so far.
