The Chief Executive of the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI) recently joined other civil society groups in Africa to participate in a pivotal three-day Multistakeholder Dialogue held in Port-Louis, Mauritius, from November 25 to 27, 2024.

The event aimed to amplify the voice of Africa’s civil society in shaping global tax governance frameworks.

The dialogue, hosted in the scenic capital city, brought together key stakeholders, including policymakers, civil society organizations, and international experts, to deliberate on strategies to combat illicit financial flows (IFFs) and enhance the transparency of natural resource management.

During the discussions, participants underscored the importance of addressing systemic weaknesses in financial oversight and ensuring that Africa’s vast natural resources are managed equitably and sustainably.

The dialogue emphasized fostering collaboration between governments and civil society to build more transparent, accountable financial systems that serve the continent’s development goals.

The Chief Executive of CHRDI highlighted the organization’s commitment to advocating for policies that deter financial malpractices and empower local communities.

“This dialogue marks a significant step towards creating a unified front in tackling illicit financial flows and ensuring the responsible management of Africa’s natural wealth,” the CHRDI leader stated.

The event concluded with a call for actionable solutions to strengthen Africa’s position in global tax governance and promote a fairer, more transparent financial landscape across the continent.
