The Christ the Kings College (CKC) is mourning the untimely death of S.P. Yayah Fomolo, the institution’s top-performing student in the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Fomolo tragically passed away in a road accident while traveling on a motorbike to attend an interview at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS).

The tragic incident was confirmed by the CKC Old Boys Association (COBA) National Executive, who described Fomolo as a brilliant and determined young man with a bright future. Fomolo had recently been celebrated during CKC’s annual Speech Day and Prize Giving Ceremony, where he was honored as the best WASSCE-performing student.

Fomolo, who had no close family in Freetown, was under the care of COBA National President Bobbay CKC, who provided him with accommodation and support since his WASSCE success. The young scholar had also been supported by retired Lieutenant General Brima Sesay, who facilitated his application for a U.S. military scholarship after he excelled in pre-military exams.

On the morning of his passing, Fomolo received news of his shortlisting for admission at COMAHS. Tragically, his journey to fulfill the next step in his academic pursuit was cut short by the fatal accident.

Fomolo’s death has left the CKC community, his mentors, and friends devastated. COBA expressed its deepest condolences to his family and acknowledged the profound loss of a young man who embodied resilience and academic excellence.
