A lecturer of Fourah Bay College (FBC). University of Sierra Leone (USI) Augustine Ansumana Garmoh, was yesterday Thursday 8th September, 2022 before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No 1 testify how he was defrauded by the accused Alhaji Ansumana Kallon. Sorie I. Fornah Reports.
The accused appeared before the court for one count offence of obtaining goods by false pretenses contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916
According to the particulars of offence, on the 22nd September, 2020 at the FBC Campus at Mount Aureol, Freetown, the accused with intent to defraud obtained from the lecturer Augustine Ansumana Garmoh one white Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration No. AAG 454 valued at US$5,000, equivalent to Le72 500,000 (Seventy-Two Million Five Hundred Thousand Old Leones), by falsely pretending to buy the said vehicle knowing same to be false
In his testimony, the First Prosecution Witness (PW1) Augustine A Garmoh, told the court that he came to know the accused through his younger brother Mamoud Garmoh who resides at Jalloh Terrace, Wellington in east end Freetown.
The PW1 recalled the aforesaid date when he received a call from his younger brother, who works at the Independent Media Commission (IMC), to meet him at his office on Siaka Stevens Street, adding that when he arrived there, he met his younger brother together with the accused.
He said his younger brother introduced the accused to him and the accused said he had been searching for a vehicle to buy and he would therefore want to buy his vehicle. The lecturer said when he told the accused that his vehicle was not meant for sale, his younger brother and the accused persuaded him to sell the vehicle According to the PW1, the accused agreed to buy the vehicle at US$5000 but requested to test the vehicle for some period, which he agreed, adding that the accused further agreed to pay Le3.5million per week and he made a part payment of Le 1million on that day of agreement The mater comes up again on Tuesday 27th September 2022 Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai is prosecuting the matter
