The High Court in Freetown has acquitted a Guinean named Aminata Jalloh after Legal Aid Board applied for her release to Justice Monfred Sesay.
The lady was in court for shop-breaking, larceny and conspiracy to commit a felony with one Joshua Malcolm King.
The Guinean had denied the allegations before her arraignment in court.
The State Prosecutors did not further with any evidence after the Legal Aid Board filed their application to the judge.
Justice Sesay acquitted the accused while the Board facilitated her return to Conakry with the help of the President of the Western Area Fullah Tribal Head, Chief Alimamy Mohamed Sajor Jalloh.
The Board’s decision to repatriate the lady is due to a request made by the court to facilitate her return to reunite with her family in Guinea.
In an interview upon her release, the lady said she came to Sierra Leone to look for a good life but that became a nightmar, especially after the complainant framed her for the offence.
“My dream is to return to Conakry and reunite with my grandfather as my father died many years ago,” she said.
The Executive Director of the Board, Fatmata Claire-Hanciles admonished the lady to be law-abiding and bade her farewell. She also applauded the judge for his decision.
The Legal Aid Board is being run with support from government to provide legal service to accused persons that could not afford one. The Board has been offering pro-bono service to accused persons for several years now. Quite recently the Legal Service voiced challenges like inadequate staff.
