The Principal Magistrate of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1, His Worship Magistrate Sahr Kekura has granted bail to all accused persons for an alleged electricity theft.
The accused persons; Ramatu Turay, Isatu Mansaray, Mohamed Kamara, Mohamed Santigie Kamara, Abdul Kassim and Sallieu Ibrahim Kamara, were granted bail in the sum of One Hundred Million Leones (Le. 100,000,000) each with one surety.
The accused persons are standing trail on one count of Fraudulently Cause Electricity Supply from Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and diverted same to their house at Black Hall Road in Freetown.
Representing the accused persons, C.J. Williams Esq. applied for bail referencing Section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act 1965 and the Bail Regulations of 2018.
In his ruling to the application for bail, Magistrate Sahr Kekura ruled in favour of his application by granting bail subject to the approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
In a related matter, Magistrate Sahr Kekura also granted One Hundred Million Leones bail and one surety to Kadiatu Kamara from Makeni for stealing of electricity supply from EDSA contrary to the Electricity Supply Act No 16 of 2011.
According to the particulars of offence, accused Kadiatu on Monday 21st June 2021 at 15 Lima Street, Looking Town in Makeni City, Bombali Judicial District, Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, dishonestly abstracted electricity supply from EDSA. The cases were adjourned to Friday 20th August, 2021.
