A retired Dental Officer, John Kabba Dumbuya, said to be in his seventies and residing in Kamakwie, Sella Limba Chiefdom, has been detained by the Police over a video he shared viral of his 110 years old bedridden Mother speaking in Limba which Dumbuya translated into English to mean that the old woman was alleging that she had been gang raped in the night by assailants.
However, his old Mother has now told social workers & police detectives that the claims of her being raped were untrue. The 110 years old woman, again speaking through interpreters to Police & social workers, in an audio that this newspaper has listened to, vehemently denied ever saying she was raped.
In sharp contrast, in the video done by her son, John Kabba Dumbuya and sent viral on social media, Dumbuya who is himself an elderly man with gray hair totally covering his head, is seen interviewing his bedridden old mother after which he speaks to the camera.
The old Mum gesticulates with her hands whilst speaking in Limba and the son, Dumbuya translates her words from Limba into English in the video.
“She is my mother. She is 110 years old. They raped her here during the night attack which is very bad…. This woman is bedridden and is very old… This Mum, she cannot even get up.
She explained to them that she is my mother in the hope that maybe when she says she is my mother, they will leave her but they came inside this house, and they raped this Mum… this old Mum, they raped her here,” Dumbuya spoke in his viral video with visible anguish on his face.
However, when social workers & senior police officers were swiftly dispatched to the village in Kamakwie area, the old woman said nothing like rape happened to her.
She said indeed male assailants broke into her bedroom at night as she laid on the bed but they did not rape her. She said they damaged some of her belongings and stole her other valuables.
She vehemently denied being raped. As a result, the Kamakwie Police officers have detained John Kabba Dumbuya for further probing of the motivation behind sending such a video viral on social media. As we went to press, Dumbuya was still in detention.
