Residents of the Devil Hole Community in the Eastern Area of Freetown have called on the government to urgently halt the operations of Hualian Resin Tile Factory, owned by Mr. Bakarr, alias BBT, as it allegedly poses a threat to their safety and property.
Reports made to Sierraloaded indicate that the factory’s heavy-duty machinery creates intense vibrations that cause nearby homes to tremble. Residents have reported significant damage, including cracks in their walls, attributed to the factory’s operations.
In response to these concerns, community stakeholders reportedly engaged Bakarr, requesting that he either cease operations or relocate the factory.
According to the locals, it was agreed that the factory would stop operations by the end of June 2025. However, residents alleged that Bakarr has not adhered to the agreement and has instead added structures to the factory, ignoring the damage to the community.
Attempts to contact Bakarr for a response to the allegations made against him were unsuccessful; he held the conversation and promised to respond to the allegations the following day but has since failed to answer calls or messages.
Residents have provided video evidence to Sierraloaded, showing cracked walls and families vacating their homes due to the factory’s impact. The community is calling on the government to take immediate action to prevent further risks associated with the factory’s operations.
