Dorothy Springer Trust Institute focused on improving the lives of the disabled on Friday 24th February 2023, held its graduation ceremony for the third set of students.
The ceremony with the theme “Transforming the lives of people with disabilities through Information Communication Technology (ITC) and Employment Pathway” at DST grounds, Cheshire Home, Clinetown in Freetown.
Dr. Abdulai Abs. Dumbuya, Chief Executive Officer of the foundation while delivering his keynote address stated that the DST is a technical and vocational institution with accreditation, established to help change the lives of people with disabilities in Sierra Leone by helping them with employment.
He also said the institute is able to do this through the provision of training of scholarships and ITC for them to be independent.
He disclosed that seventy-five percent (75%) of the first set of graduates from the DST are fully employed as the institution helps their students in acquiring jobs after graduation.
He further stated that as an institution, they also advocate for radical inclusion and the rights and dignities of persons with disabilities in Sierra Leone.
He ends by calling on people with disabilities to enroll at the DST to acquire skills to become responsible citizens.
The graduates render their appreciation to the institution and promised to put to practice the skill they have acquired.
