A 28-year-old driver, Mohamed Mansaray, and 37-year-old labourer, Alpha Bedor Bangura, have been committed to the High Court following their latest appearance at Pademba Road Court No. 1 before Magistrate Sahr Kekura.
The men are facing charges related to shopbreaking and theft under Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the prosecution, on August 10, 2024, the suspects allegedly conspired with an unidentified individual to break into a shop at No. 11 Johnson Lane, Aberdeen, Freetown. They reportedly stole Le 2,600 in cash, along with various personal care and cosmetic products valued at Le 13,060. Among the stolen items were 18 packets of human hair, 32 bottles of body spray, a silver memory stick, 29 assorted cosmetics, a pack of combs, a pedicure set, and a blue cup hair spray. The goods belong to businesswoman Kadijatu Kanu.
During the court proceedings, Inspector Kadie M. Taylor, representing the state, called four witnesses, including the shop owner, who provided testimony about the incident. Following the presentation of evidence, the prosecution formally submitted the case for judicial review.
Magistrate Kekura, after examining the evidence, ruled that the prosecution had established sufficient grounds to proceed with the case at the High Court. Both accused remain on bail, but under stricter conditions.
Under the new bail terms, each accused must present two sureties who are gainfully employed, hold valid identification, and reside within the court’s jurisdiction. Bail approval is subject to review by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The case remains under Inspector M.K. Taylor’s prosecution.
