In an unexpected move, Dr. Comrad Sackey, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), undertook an impromptu visit to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Junior Secondary School in Taiama Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, on Thursday, 14th December, 2023.
During this unannounced visit, Dr. Sackey engaged in discussions with the school’s acting principal, Mr. Mamoud Fofana. The primary focus was addressing the myriad challenges haunting the institution. Established in 2012 and government-approved in 2020, the school has operated without formally appointed teachers, relying solely on volunteer educators.
Despite existing for over a decade, none of the ten teachers employed are on the government payroll, causing severe resource constraints.
A glaring issue highlighted by Mr. Fofana was the school’s inadequate infrastructure. The overcrowded classrooms, coupled with the absence of essential facilities like libraries, a dedicated hall for devotion, administrative buildings, and more, has hindered the institution’s ability to provide quality education.
Responding to these distressing revelations, Dr. Sackey wasted no time. He promptly reached out to Mr. Edmond G. Momoh, the Deputy Director of the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) in Moyamba District South.
The minister emphasized the urgency of addressing the challenges faced by Ahmadiyya Muslim Junior Secondary School in Taiama, signaling swift action to mitigate these pressing issues.
This is a very good move by the minister
