Eight individuals have been arrested for allegedly stealing aluminum pipes belonging to the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) in a calculated operation that relied on motorbikes for transport.
The suspects, including Augustine Demby, Abubakarr Maccathy, Ishmael Lebbie, Morison Deen, Mamady Koroma, Gassimu Conneh, Obai Koroma, and Abass Sandy, were apprehended by officers of the Southern Regional Police Command early on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Acting on credible intelligence, Police Constable 12860 Mohamed I. Sesay, alongside the Bo West Division night operations team, intercepted the group at around 2:00 a.m. at the Bo Government Reservation.
Investigators believe the suspects used two motorbikes to transport the stolen pipes, highlighting a coordinated effort to move the nine aluminum items from the scene.
The motorbikes, along with the pipes, have since been recovered, aiding the ongoing investigation led by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Regional Police Headquarters South.
Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Titus Vandy, the Regional Crime Officer overseeing the case, has assured the public that all efforts are being made to uncover the full extent of the crime and hold those involved accountable.
