The U.S. Embassy in Freetown celebrated the 249th anniversary of the United States’ independence on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, with a reception that reflects the enduring values of American democracy and the importance of partnerships with Sierra Leone.
The U.S. Ambassador to Freetown, David Bryan Hunt, addressed attendees, asserting the United States’ ongoing commitment to supporting the aspirations of the Sierra Leonean people.
“The United States’ enduring goal has been and remains to help the Sierra Leonean people achieve their own aspirations for democracy, economic prosperity, and social well-being,” he said. “We will continue to do so firm in the belief that self-reliance and mutual benefit should serve as the foundation for these efforts.”
The celebration featured themes from the American Southwest, showcasing its innovation, resilience, and cultural diversity. This year’s event not only commemorated U.S. independence but also reaffirmed the growing ties between the United States and Sierra Leone.
