The family of a man that was brutally killed in the Northern city of Makeni is bitterly crying for justice weeks after their relative was forcefully taken out of this world.
Born on May 4th 1993, Abdulai Kanu was allegedly attacked and killed on September 6th 2024 in Makama, Back Of the Makeni Government Hospital in Makeni City. Kanu is a former student of the Ernest Bai Koroma University.
Though killed in early September, the family is frustrated because the incident has taken weeks and the police in Makeni haven’t brought to book possible suspects linked to alleged crime.
According to a family member, the death of their late relative was suspicious which is why they’re emphasizing that an investigation must be thoroughly done.
“This is a very painful death and we want to know the circumstances that led to this kind of unprecedented incident,” a family member said over the phone.
The deceased, the family said was found dead with rope tied around his mouth and his body was with blood stains. The fact that Kanu was allegedly killed in broad daylight opens room for more questions to be asked, the family suggests.
Contrary to claims by a family member over the phone that the Sierra Leone Police Force hasn’t arrested any suspect, Northeast region spokesman of the Sierra Leone Police said there are suspects in custody in connection to the alleged incident, though he did not tell the number of suspects in custody.
Sergeant John Abass Kamara stated that the matter is under investigation at the Mena Police Station regional Criminal Investigation Department in Makeni.
Even the regional Police Commander in the Northeast, Commissioner of Police Victor Manfred Williams, the regional spokesman said is also supervising the matter because of its critical nature. The Sierra Leone Police, Sgt. Kamara said has obtained statements from those they deemed necessary.
Kamara said the matter is critical and the police needed time to investigate.
“The matter is under investigation and it’s a very critical matter. Because of the nature of the matter, the police need time to investigate and trace whoever might have something to do with the alleged incident, ” Sgt. John Abass Kamara stated.
New Jersey, the place where Kanu was allegedly killed is located in Makama, and it’s one of the communities in Makeni City where crimes such as this one are normal. Many people have become victims of the various criminal activities in that area.
According to the police spokesman, the community would have saved the young man because the incident reportedly happened during day time.
“How can whatever people as alleged enter that fenced house and kill the young man without anybody in the community knowing,” Sgt. John Abass Kamara asked.
But the investigation, the spokesman said will lead the Police investigators to the answer to that question.
The former EBK University student was a caretaker in the fenced house where he was found dead. The house belongs to a Sierra Leonean who’s based overseas. According to sources, the relationship between the late man and the house owner has deteriorated immediately after the owner returned from a visit in the country.
This is a developing story and our medium will publish our findings again as the investigation unfolds.
This is all the more the reason why the death penalty must be reinstated.
The police need to act fast on this matter because justice delay justice denied. Let the soul of the departure rest in peace. Amen.
