Today, on the 28th of December 2023, the family of the Late Philip Daniel Neville, a respected figure in Sierra Leone’s journalism scene, will gather in Koso Town, Waterloo, to observe the one-year anniversary of his passing in a solemn memorial service.
Philip Neville, a veteran journalist and media tycoon, tragically lost his life on December 28th, 2022. The incident occurred when he was walking along the roadside pedestrian pavement and was struck from behind by a speeding motorbike, leaving him with severe head injuries in a hit-and-run incident on Boxing Day. Despite immediate medical attention, Neville succumbed to his injuries the following morning at the Choithram Memorial Hospital in Hill Station, Freetown.
The memorial service will take place at the church and house he established in Kossoh town, starting at 4 PM. It will bring together family, friends, colleagues, and admirers to honor and remember his legacy.
Philip Neville was not just a journalist but a significant contributor to Sierra Leone’s media landscape. He was known as the proprietor of the esteemed Standard Times Newspaper, Star Radio, and TV – Media One Centre. Additionally, Neville served as a former Vice President and Acting President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ).
The service will provide a poignant moment for all those present to remember and celebrate the life of a remarkable individual whose contributions continue to resonate within the country’s media fraternity.
