A devastating fire swept through Kpetema Town in Bumpeh Chiefdom, Moyamba District, destroying over a hundred houses and approximately ten shops.
The incident, which occurred on March 14, is believed to have been ignited by a young man who was reportedly clearing his farmland near the town.
Witnesses state that the fire quickly spread beyond control, engulfing residential and commercial properties and leaving thousands of residents homeless. Among the affected is Miss Salamatu, a local shop owner, who lamented the loss of her business and personal belongings. “We did not have the chance to save anything from our buildings, resulting in millions of Leones in losses,” she said.
The community is now calling for urgent assistance from the government and non-governm
ental organizations (NGOs) to help those displaced by the fire. Local leaders are organizing efforts to provide temporary shelter and essential supplies for the victims.
As the community grapples with this tragedy, there is an urgent need for support to rebuild lives and restore hope in Kpetema.
