High Court Judge, Justice Adrian Fisher has refused the application for bail filed by lawyer representing former Skye Bank manager, Ikubolaje Nicol.
Fisher refused bail because he believed that it could expose the accused to risk and also water down the reputation of the judiciary.
46-year-old Nicol is in court after being implicated in the death of former staff of Skye Bank Sinnah Kai Kargbo in November last year.
It is alleged by the police that Nicol is responsible for the death of the 26-year-old banker who they said took her last breath at his house.
The former Skye Bank manager has longed denied the allegation while in police custody and also during preliminary investigation at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court.
The trial, however, took a new turn in the previous sitting after state counsel Ahmed James Maxwell applied for the case to be tried by judge alone rather than by judge and jury which is the norm in capital offences like murder.
Defence lawyer, Roland Wright argued against the said request by the state lawyer and filed an application to the Supreme Court.
The matter was adjourned by Fisher pending a verdict from the Supreme Court.
